Garageband monitor sound cutting out while recording

I have a g4 powerbook titanium with 10.4 and just bought a Samson C01U. I've been using the mic by going into my mac preferences and choosing the Samson CO1U from the dropdown without any problems. Last night I downloaded a software driver from Samson for the Mic that will allow you to open up a application to control volume input gain and so on while your using garageband.(This app also makes the vocals clearer & louder through the headphones.) I've gone into GB preferences audio/midi, chose Samson CO1U and could hear everything just fine, but after about a minute of recording vocals, the monitor sound from my headphones just cuts out. The vocals are still being recorded but I can't hear anything through the headphones. Anyone have any ideas what the problem could be?

P.S. I have 3 midi tracks going & I've tried locking them
and still I have the problem..before I used the Samson app.
I've had as many as 3 vocal tracks going without a problem.

The moving triangle glows orange and then red when your processor is reaching its max. When it is in the red anything can happen, including drop outs of sound. As you are recording what color is the triangle?

I record completely dry, all effects turned off the track and master track. This helps, as well as locking tracks like you mentioned. Other ideas here:

Do you hear a static popping or clicking before the sound drops out?

As has been mentioned in this thread there can be a problem in the macs monitoring when a USB device is being used as the input and a different device is used for output monitoring. Apple is completely silent concerning this problem except to issue a document saying that recordings can have dropout problems after a minute or so, and that the solution is to use the same USB device for input and output. Of course when your using a stand alone USB mic this is not possible.

I also use a stand alone USB mic but not the Samson and I have to constantly work around this problem by recording vocals in bits and pieces.

Apparently there are a number of people using the Samson with GB and hopefully they will chime in to tell you if they are having the same problem.
I'm very curious because I have been saving my beer money for a Samson! (its been taking me a long time because I don't drink beer!)

Warrior,
Yes! I get the static pop right before it drops out. Like I said, when I brought it home and plugged it in, I
went into my MAC audio settings and chose the Samson for Mic
and just used GB's gain settings in the the track settings to control gain. I had like 3 vocal tracks that I recorded no problem...soon as I went into GB audio/midi settings and chose the Samson is when I started having problems. Too bad cause I like having that mic setting application there to monitor the levels while I'm recording. Mic is pretty cool though you can still use it without a problem as long as you do like I said above.
