There is not enough free space on your Aperture Library volume to import the selected items. It is estimated that you need at least 4GB of free space.

I have over 250 GB free space yet aperture still tells me i nedd more than 4 BG when importing my pictures (2 gb ) from iphoto library to apertura library ???

Any suggestions ??

Hello,

where is your Aperture Library located and what are your import settings?

If your Library is on an external drive, is enough free space on that external?

Check in the import panel, what you told Aperture where to store the imported images:

User uploaded file

If you choose:" in the Aperture library", make sure there is enough space on the volume with the Library, if you choose to relocate to a different volume, check the free space on that volume.

Just changed the apertura library location

And did you open Aperture on the new Library in the new location ( that is best done by double clicking the icon of the library), so that Aperture points to the new location?

Also, are your import settings like I have shown in the screenshot above?

Otherwise Aperture may still try to store the images on your system drive.

Anyway i created a new Apertura library on my desktop double clicked on the library to be sure that I opened the right library, then tryed to import again, but with the same problem ????

Im Also cunfused now :-)

And how much free space is on your system drive?

I strongly suspect that the system drive is nearly full: My guess: Aperture could not access the library on our external drive and tried to write to your system drive.

Then your options are:

  • create plenty of free space on the system drive
  • or find out why the extrenal cannot be accessed by Aperture

Reasons, why the external can not be read may be:

  • it is a network volume (that is not recommended for Aperture)
  • or the formatting is wrong. You need MacOS X extended formatting:

If necessary, reformat your external volume using disk utility and repair the permissions on the volume.

I got the same message but the reason why was different from what I read here. I'd like to share this. Maybe someone else has the same problem.

I tried to import about 1500 RAW format pictures an then I got this message saying that I needed another 700MB additional free space. My Aperture library was about 22GB and my harddisk had about 400GB free out of 1TB. So plenty of room I thought.

However the external drive on which I store my masters wass full. So it wasn't the Aperture library drive but the external drive and this produces the exact same failure message. This is a little confusing.
