speakers stopped working

Set up a new iMac -- all perfect -- suddenly yesterday no sound at all --- no clicks, no itunes etc. looked and it's set for internal speakers. Downloaded Adobe Reader yesterday and new version of firefox -- otherwise all standard. Any ideas what I do? Thx

Hi sorry -- wasn't clear. I have sound with headphones - no problem. I have NO sound with internal speakers since a couple of days ago. Have done the reset of PRAM and nothing changed. So there is clearly a problem with the internal speakers or the link -- but sound does come through headphones so it's not a generic 'sound' problem. Clear? Thanks!
