Phone won't back up and tells me my user id or password is incorrect then takes me to page where i can only change the password. I need to change the id.

You can't change your Apple ID if it's a @me or @mac address, if it isn't, you can change your ID at My Apple ID
Change your location if necessary and go to manage my account.
Try deleting the iCloud account and recreate with your chosen ID.
I deleted my iCloud on my iPhone 3Gs. Reloaded and it still has my old hotmail email account that I have not used in over a year. My old MacBookPro won't let me change my Apple ID, either. I have the new Apple ID on my new HP with Windows 7 perfectly. But, I need to sync all my music on my old MacBookPro to the cloud (which also has the new Apple ID).
How can anything be so difficult? Is this just part of the war between Apple's world and PC's world?
I am just looking for simple Step1, Step 2, Step 3. I hate having to program stuff. I just want to log in and work......
You can't delete the account without the password, and the old email address and current password get rejected.
It took some playing around but I have just managed to get this to work.
I changed my Apple ID email address and password in manage my Apple ID. I then signed out of my account on my iPad under App Store and iTunes and re signed in with my new account. Then I deleted my iCloud account which displayed the old address but allowed me to use the new password when disabling the find my iPhone app. I then signed in to iCloud with my new id and password and fall is well. Good luck!
I just did everything that you said, and it's not letting me use the new password to turn off the find my iPhone app. I still can't sign into the cloud with my new corrected apple id.
