Why can I not facetime with an Iphone 4s in a different state??

    Is the other iPhone on Wi-Fi?  Facetime won't work on a 3G network.  It must use Wi-Fi.

    Yes the other phone is connected to Wi-Fi

    Then what other troubleshooting have you tried?  (The more info you provide, the less time we have to spend going back and fourth.)  Is the other iPhone able to Facetime to another iPhone, iPad, or Mac?  You don't mention if you're using Facetime on a Mac or iPhone.  Since you're in the Facetime for Mac forums, we'll assume from a Mac, but then you should also say what version of OSX you're using.  (10.6 or 10.7.)  And are you able to Facetime to another iPhone, iPad or Mac?  (We don't want to assume.)
