I'm having trouble synchronizing my iCalendar between my desktop Mac and my iPhone 4S. Preferences for both devices are set to enable iCal in iCloud (or so I think) but items entered in one don't appear in the other unless I plug the devices together. What am I doing wrong? Does it have anything to do with the email address used as my iCloud account? Are there other settings that must be turned on besides the obvious ones? All my software is up-to-date.
Obviously you must have both your Mac and phone signed into iCloud with the same ID. Please check through the setup procedure detailed here:

Thanks for your reply. Both my Mac and my iPhone share the same AppleID account.
In order for iCloud syncing to take place your calendars must be listed under 'iCloud' . Calendars listed under 'On My Mac' can be synced through iTunes but not through iCloud. 'Calendars' must be turned on in System Preferences>iCloud and Settings>iCloud.
