Hi.
I have tons of recorded content in mpeg video format on my PC. i recorded these clips through my tv tuner card.
I want to transfer some of them to my ipad. How can i do that? And do i need to install any video players on my ipad?

With mpegs you shouldn't need another player. Open your iTunes and I believe it's file, add file to library. Navigate to where your videos are and choose them. then import them into iTUnes
Then hook up your device and, once iTunes recognizes it, click on the name of your device. Along the top of iTunes click on 'movies'. This should open a window inside iTunes where you can see the videos you just added. Choose the ones you want to sync and sync.
then they should be under the video tab on your iPad

However, i used that method already and nothing happens. The movies area is still empty and there were no videos added which i can sync to the iPad.
Any ideas what could be wrong?

I don't know what to tell you. I do the file, add to library, connect to it, then open the device and check 'sync movies' choose the movies and sync.
Give some details about the video files.
Here are the formats accepted on the iPad
|
1. Install a 3rd party App like OPlayer (there are many more in the App Store that can do the same job)
2. Connect iPad to computer with USB cable
3. Use the App in conjunction with File Sharing in iTune to transfer Mpeg video to iPad
They are mpeg 2 files.
They will not natively play on an iPad.
You are better off converting them since they will take up a lot of space(I assume they are hi def).

They are not hi def. in fact they are not even standard def (DVD quality). They are actually medium res, 1/2 DVD quality. A one hour recording takes 1.7 gb space only. They are recorded from Hauppauge PVR150 tv tuner card and are in Mpeg2 format. Will i be able to play it on iPad without a 3rd part app? Also i dont have Quicktime installed.
In the iTunes left side pane, in Library > Movies, there are only 2 options, Download Movies, and Rent Movies. However, I can use the File menu to Add File to Library by selecting the file from my PC's hard disk and adding it. However nothing happens after I do that and the file doesnt appear under Library > Movies.
Any advice? Do I need to convert it into another format from Mpeg2?

Another question is, i saw various 3rd party video player apps which can play e.g. WMV formats on iPad.
If we cant add WMV files in iTunes movie folder to sync to iPad, how can we use such 3rd party apps?

A 20 minute medium resolution mpeg2 video takes more than 1 hour o my PC to convert to mp4. Thus i cannot use Handbrake for the purpose.
I installed OPlayer on iPad. Then connected to my PC using cable.
Still, cant import any mpegs into the Movies Library in iTunes. Same old thing. Nothing happens when I try to add files to library.
Do i need to install any other app on my iPad such as some 'File Sharing' app to copy the mpeg file from my PC?
Its so complex and confusing.
Drag the movies into iTunes.
Highlight the videos you've added to iTunes.
Go to the Advanced menu and select "Create iPad or Apple TV version".
It will take iTunes a bit, but it will create iPad-compatible versions of the videos that you can sync. The iPad itself does not support MPEG-2. iTunes, however includes this conversion utility that will transcode videos (of any format that you can view in Quicktime) into the h.264 format preferred for iPad content.
1. Install OPlayer on iPad
2. Connect iPad to computer with cable
3. Open iTune on computer
4. Select iPad (device) on the right
5. Select App on the top of screen
6. Scroll down until you see File Sharing box
7. Select OPlayer in the left box of box
8. Locate you video on the right and copy them to OPlayer
Note: The video are copied to OPlayer and you use OPlayer to play your video

i cannot drag any of my videos into iTunes; it says 'you cannot copy this file to iPad because there is no software to play this file'.
Altho, i have installed OPlayer.
