External Devices

I typed an essay on pages on my mac and went to save it on my Seagate external Hard Drive but it wouldn't let me save the essay onto it. why is this and what can i do about it?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.2)

The external drive is in a format the Mac can't natively write to — probably NTFS. You need to reformat it Mac OS Extended in Disk Utility. Reformatting will erase everything that's one it now, so if anything of value is on it, back that up to some other storage medium first.
