complaints about apple service centres?
Ok so it's a long story...
I was overseas last year backpacking through Europe - I had a mid 2010 mbp that I took with me, and as I was passing through Croatia my hard drive died. There were no apple service centres at all where I was (in split), but I did find a guy at a Konikom store who removed the busted hard drive and managed to recover most of the data for me (at this stage it held about 6 months worth of photos from the trip on it, so the pics were my number 1 priority...) and transfer to another drive.
So - I've got a mbp with me and no apple service centres nearby to pick up a replacement hard drive and have it fitted etc... the next stop was Serbia, and so while in Belgrade I went to the iStyle store there. They are a premium apple place, so figured I would be all set and ready to roll...
Ok so don't laugh at me for being a noob in the next part - I went in to see them, explained what had happened - they seemed to think I was a complete *** for getting someone to remove the hard-drive already, as they've 'probably done more damage'. I was skeptical at this, since the guy at Konikom who did the transfer for me removed the drive on the counter while I waited, and the only piece he took out was the drive - he handed the computer back to me then and there and I collected the data from him later. Anyway, I left the computer with the guys at iStyle, and they said they would call the next day when it was ready.
I went in the next afternoon (no call), and they told me that the computer is unable to be fixed, as the guy has removed the 'connector' for the hard drive... 'you can't get a replacement part for that, so now your computer is useless'. So - idiot me thinking that this is going to be the last apple store I'll see for a while, I bought a new MBP from them (at a MUCH higher price than what they sell for at home, but I still had 6 months to go on the trip and didn't want to be without one).
So now - the trip is over - I get home (I sent the drive-less mac back in the post), and thought I'd take a look at it myself - a few youtube vids on hard drive replacement, a few screws removed and there it is - the connector that is apparently missing is sitting there where it always was. They either hadn't even opened the computer, or they did and just thought they could pull a swifty to sell a new mac.
OK so i feel like a complete idiot for believing them, but I went to them because they were premium apple guys - and thought it would mean more.
I know this is a complaint about a reseller, not apple themselves, but I'm really peeved and want to let Apple know about it. Any suggestions?
Feel free to laugh at me now...
