    Hello Lorraine,

    .I have re-installed, restarted, re launched......what next?

perhaps check the permissions of the library? Where is your library located?  In your Pictures Folder or somewhere else? Did this error suddenly occur with this library, or is this library an older library that maybe needs upgrading?

What is your Aperture version and your OS?

What are the permissions you see, when you select your library in the Finder and do  File -> Get Info from the Finder menu? You should have read-write permissions, also for the contaiing folder. If the permissions are really wrong, disclose the "Sharing and permissions brick" in the Get Info Panel, click the padlock, enter your password, and change the permissions to read-write, click the cogwheel and select: apply to enclosed items.

Then try again to open the library.

    Regards

    Léonie

Run the library permission repair from the library first aid window. See Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics

Hold down the option and command keys while starting Aperture, then select Repair Library Permissions.

Post back if that doesn't resolve the problem.

This problem can happen if you are trying to share a single Aperture library between two users (e.g. keep the library in the Shared folder for access by multiple users). This won't work because of the permissions problems. The only way to share between multiple users is to store the library on a non-boot drive where you can enable "ignore ownership" for the entire drive.
