Nano shuts off unexpectedly

I just received my replacement Nano. Set everything up, have all the latest updates to iTunes etc., but when a song is playing, halfway through the Nano shuts off. when I press the wakeup button the screen lights displaying a pause/play button appears with the name of the interrupted song.I have checked all settings and cannot figure this out.

Any suggestions?

This is an indication that your headphones are not plugged all the way in. The white part of the headphones should be flush with your Nano, meaning no silver from the plug can still be seen. The newer headphone jacks are bit tighter than in previous generations, so it requires a bit of extra force to get the headphones to fully insert.
