Q: iBooks Author Question - Can I create a company training manual w/o selling it on iTunes

I'd like to set up a training manual with this iBooks Author system and not share it on iTunes or anywhere else. Can this be done across several iPads so I can use it at the same time across several machines?

iPad 2, iOS 5.0.1, iBooks Author

As long as you don't charge for the manual, yes. You can place the file anywhere convenient; your users can then drag it into iTunes and sync it to their iPads.

    From the iBA FAQ:

How can I distribute my work?

You can publish your book to the iTunes Bookstore; you must choose to sell your book or offer it as a free download. You can also export your book from iBooks Author as a PDF, text, or iBooks document for you to distribute outside the iBookstore.

Please explain the step of dragging it into iTunes. Where can I put it so they can do this. I have tried to email a test book and find that mail does not like it and claims there is no content? When I look at my "sent" mail and try to open it says that the file cannot be opened?

    Still confused,

    Cliff

If I distribute on the iTunes bookstore can I restrict access to company employees to whom it is intended for them to use on their iPads?

I have version 10.5.3 and I was able to send a "Sample" book to my iPad.

When I mailed it in hopes it would not be a sample it automatically uses .ibooks file extension but took a very long time to arrive by email and now will not open? When I check my sent mail and try to open the quick view it wants or suggests that I use iBooks Author but cannot open it?

Export as iBook to a folder on your computer. Locate that folder/file in the Finder and then drag that file/iBook onto the iTunes icon in the dock.

Look in iTunes on the upper left side for 'Books'...find your book in that section and sync to your iPad. Do this process to confirm that the book works on your device, first.

No. If you distribute on the iTunes bookstore, the book will (and must) be available to everyone. If you want to restrict access, you need to host the book yourself, on a web site, file server, etc.

You can use the menu in iTunes to import the iBook into iTunes:

Hmm, I've got myFirstBook sitting in the finder having published it from iAuthor, and am trying to drag it into iTunes (10.5.3), and it just bounces back. I've tried to import usingthe menu in iTunes, and nothing happens. And I can't see where this process is going wrong. Any clues?? I created the iBook using Publish  - is this specifically on ly for the iTunes store - or should it be a  universalpackage that can be published using the itunes store or distributed via a web server (I want to produce not for sale catalogue type books...)

OK - solved. I published my book, rather than exporting my book. Once i'd exported it, then I could drag it ont itunes, and then sync it to my iPad. No very intuitive, as far as I'm concerned as I would expect to publish it, regardless of the destination....

Thanks to all for your help. I believe I can now proceed. Just hoping that the widgits etc will all work? Does anyone know about this if you publish and synch with your ipad?

As well does anyone know if there are any apps yet to add greater functionality to the testing side?
