Something's wrong with my iPod- music isn't showing up at all

Okay- I got an ipod. Yay.

Bring some CDs in, move the music over to iTunes. So far so good.

Put my ipod on. Itunes sends the songs to my ipod. Great.

Go to play them off my ipod... no songs. Not good.

I've spent an hour working on this **** thing. I've reinstalled iTunes twice. I've reinstalled my ipod update thing. I've restored my ipod to factory defaults. I've gone in manually, deleted the songs (they show as being there in itunes) and resent them. I've plugged it into a new USB port. So, before I waste anymore time on this- anyone have any thoughts as to the problem? According to itunes- the music is there, on the ipod. I can't play it. That's.. not very useful to me.

It's a 5th Gen ipod- if that matters.

Okay, thanks.
