Why can't I put newsstand in a folder
I am attempting to put newsstand into a folder and it will not either create a new folder or allow you to put it into an existing folder. Does not work on my iPad2 or iPhone 4s
iPad 2, iOS 5.0.1, iPhone 4s

Newsstand is essentially a smart folder, so one isn't really supposed to be put into another folder. But there's a workaround.

Thanks I will try this
Just be aware that if you do use apps in Newstand, then Newstand will come out of this folder if you open an app in it.
Its been my experience that Newsstand won't even open if it's folderized. It did, however, pop out of the folder with the last OS update, so it's possible that Apple 'fixes' the folders with updates and you have to 'refix' it into a folder.
Even if you're trying to open an app in Newstand? I haven't tried this fix myself - just going on what i'd read.
I have tried the "fix" to place Newsstand into a folder and it does work. You just have to be very quick about it.
What will happen - from what I have read and I can attest to when I did try this - is that it will crash back to the home screen when you do try to open from the folder.
I just tried it again to verify before posting and not only did it crash, it returned my iPad to the black screen and the loading twirling circle icon - and then the circle just stopped dead for about 5 seconds - then the iPad went back to the home screen. Kind of scary actually.
I prefer to just leave the icon where it is - out of sight - on another screen all by itself. It is an evil presence on my iPad and it does not want to be tricked, fooled or played with in any way other than the way that Apple intended it to work! 👿
That's what I meant - that it will return to the original status if you try to open a magazine/newspaper in Newstand. :-)
I have a good half dozen apps that I never use and never plan to use, so Newsstand resides with the rest of the banished...in a folder on the back page.
