where is textedit on my imac

its not in applications

What OS are you using?

Have you done a Find (search) for it?

im using snow leapard and i have done a spolight search for it and i searched in finder

Download the free app Easy Find. It's better than Spotlight. http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/11076/easyfind

Post back if Easy Find can't find Text Edit.

Do you have a backup of your Mac's hard drive? You could copy Text Edit from the backup.
