Can't connect any more via hdmi - could before MBP-13"

I used to use a mini-port to HDMI adapter to then connect my MBP-13" (mid-2010) to my 37" Plasma TV - it sometimes took a restart to get the monitor to work, sometimes I had to use mirror settings - but always it connected. No longer… Could this be a defective Mac-to-HDMI cable adapter? The MBP to DVI adapter on my LG Flatron E2351 works perfectly -- so I know the actual port is OK on the MBP.

And as said, this worked for many weeks, but recently, I can't get it to connect to the TV via hdmi…

Any suggestions here?
