How can I burn a DVD from iMovie '11?

I just discovered that iDVD does not come with iLife '11 as part of the 10.7 OS. The option to "share" as a DVD is still part of iMovie 9.0.4, but the process never completes because iDVD is not there. Is there a work around? Apple suggested using third-party software, but I don't know which software would work with iMovie. Since I work for a school district, this issue is likely to come up again at many school sites using 10.7, so I appreciate any advice you can give.

You could purchase the Apple Store iLife '11 suite. It includes iDVD and iWeb.

That is a solution for my particular Mac, but it doesn't solve the problem for our entire school district. It would be very costly to purchase a copy of iLife '11 for each Mac 10.7 in our school district. I am talking hundreds of computers.

Is there a program or app that could be purchased independently, and more cheeply than the iLife suite, that could mimic what iDVD did? Afterall, I already have iMovie and iPhoto. I just need iDVD or something similar.

Talk to Apple. In your case they might be pursuaded to supply iDVD for free - they have for some users who complained loudly enough!

I am new to the mac world, I purchased Macbook air --Lion and faced the same issue today. I downloaded BURN 2.5.1 and used it successfully to burn a DVD. From imovie, i created Share Media Browser--That creates a project file , which is package having a .MOV file inside it.

Add this MOV file to Video tab in BURN software, press BURN button, you are there !!

Thanks for the Burn 2.5.1 suggeston above. I have iMac - lion and I downloaded and finally was successful to burn a DVD for my son's project. Thx for your suggestion.

My suggestion would be download the compressor its about 50 bucks but you will be able to burn anything and it works as compressor as well great for iMovie burning
