AU for 12 String emulation

Hello all,
I use garageband as an effects box for my electric guitar. Does anyone know of a free Audio Unit that can emulate a 12 string guitar for live/real time playback?

Thanks

Ooops: sorry for having read too fast... What you need is a plug-in that doubles each note you play an octave above. Isn't this a job for a creative use of AU Pitch ? Knowing that +1200 cents doubles the frequency, try a slight detuning, like 1210 cents, and mix the result at something like 70%. It would be nicer still if you could also add a bit of chorusing...

My best simulation of a 12 string was to just do it manually. Play the notes normally, then play them again, an octave higher, but notice which notes are played on the B and E strings. Those notes would NOT be an octave higher, just doubled. once you learn the high part and can play it perfectly in sync with the main part, the results will sound amazingly like a real 12 string. Chords would be more of a problem, but still doable.

Hi,
thanks for all the replies everybody, ineed this would be a good place to work on my dev skills - i had a go and got confused and lost.

Is there a way to use my G5 as is, to mix the two tracks as you say? Haveing the same input getting sent to two channels in gargeband and then just octave shift one? (yes i know that isn't a perfect 12 string guitar emulation but it would do for my own fun) - all i really want to do is try and play some John Butler Trio songs and he uses a 12 string electric with one string removed so he can do bends.

So is there a free AU plugin out there? Or is there a way to split the audio input and apply the seperate effects?

Thanks again

Hi HangTime,
Thanks for the input but unfortunately you missed a bit up the top where i say i was hoping to do this all real time because i don't record anything, i just use garageband as a live effects box when practicing my guitar for fun.

If you know of a way around this problem, or of a free 12 string guitar simulator AU plugin, then please tell me.

Cheers

Hi,
thanks a whole heap for all the helps guys, i've finally got something sounding more 12 string than 6. I now have a curious looking jumble of chords that involves several minijack, megajack and RCA converters and cables. I have two differnt tracks !2 string 1 and 12 string 2.
12 string 2 is using the AUPitch as 1200 cents, 100% effect blend, and 50% smoothness and tightness. I've also lowered it to -10.8 dB.
12 String 1 is set to AUSampleDelay 2384 samps.
I found some serious latency issues with the AUPitch thing due to the way the DSP has to buffer and calculate so i had to delay 12 String 1 by a bit to get rid of the interesting tremolo effect.
Later i might try playing around with chorusing and so on, but for now i need to get used to the subtly small delay and the few other oddities of the effects.
Once again thanks, i now have a setup that is more 12 string than 6 😀
