tips for EQ'ing or mixing distortion guitars

i'm needing some tips and advice on how to get a good hard rock sound out of some distortion guitars.

What is a good way to EQ the tracks?

Are there any types of compression or limitors or gates to put on the tracks?

i don't know much about how to get a good sound once i get the good audio recorded.

i can get the stuff recorded fine, it's just getting it right in the mix
