Does disabling runaway javascript timer affect safari in any way?

Hi, I kept having a "Slow Script" pop up every 5 seconds and someone suggested I go into Preferences for Safari and essentially disabling the runaway javascript timer. I did this and my pop-up of slow script stopped but I am wondering if disabling this affects safari's activity or anything else overall? Im just worried I may have done something I shouldnt have.
