Doing a picture book. Is there a source where there are other templates than the group of 6? I want to have 2 page spreads with a seam in the middle that allows page turning and reads like a real book. Has anyone done a children's picture book using iBook Author? Is it possible or should I go to another app?

You can purchase a couple of template sets (plus a free lite version too) from the Mac app store. Relatively cheap too. They're really good.
They don't have the page curl effect though as this isn't an option in iBA at the moment anyway.
I like the Earth Science template, optionally with Gallery widget (if you have a lot of photos).
Here is what I want to do. Pic from my ipad. This is Yellow Submarine picturebook on the ibookstore. There is a gutter/seam in the center and the pages stack as you turn them. What is shown is a 2 page spread. Can this be done in iBook Author? I looked at all offered templates and can't see anything like this. To clarify; all the landscape ibook templates show a single page at a time.
iBA doesn't do that, at least not yet.
Using Pages, Share/Export to e-pub, then add to iTunes, sync the output to your iPad and view via iBooks...you'll have the effect you want there.
Thank you. We were putting our book together in Pages e-pub and then noticed iBooks author and thought "That looks a lot easier." so I downloaded it and have spent the past few days on that diversion. Thanks for your help.
ibook Creator - I believe is the name - in the app store, for the ipad, is just what you're looking for. Does a great job. funny - I'm looking into ibooks author to get rid of the seam 🙂
I have been trying to do this off and on for 2 months now. Each time I think I have it figured out and try again I end up with the same result. The bad thing about it is I cannot get help from apple or the community. I am frustrated beyond belief. Good luck.

I'm still unclear on the final solution. To get the required result (i.e. gutter/seam in the center, 2 page spread, pages that stack when flipped), is it enough to use Pages, choose a landscape format, design the book and export to ePub?
For example, if I want a picture to spread across 2 pages (like the one previously shown), do I need to place the image in a "single" landscape page in Pages, and that will be spread across 2 pages when viewed in iBooks? Is the seam added by iBooks when it reads an ePub format?
I created a children's picture book using the ipad app, Book Creator. It was fairly easy and I also added interactive sound buttons. Your book looks great, did you purchase an ISBN number for your book? If you uploaded it via Book Creator, at what point did you set your sale price for the book on iBooks?

Yes, you need to purchase a ISBN #. I created the book in "Book Creator" and uploaded it to "iTunes Producer". This is where you add all the book info like price, etc.
Thanks! I used Book Creator to create my picture book and it worked perfectly. I purchased my ISBN #s and uploaded it via iTunes Producer. It was a great experience, I did everything in less than two weeks. The reps at Book Creator were super helpful and the Apple iBooks support reps were very responsive.
