I have, several times changed my apple id password at MY APPLE ID
but when I try to login, the I-mac with lion willnot accept the new password.
I can only sign in as a guest user which limits the use.
Please help!

See if this works...
Open System Preferences>Accounts, unlock the lock, click on the little plus icon, make a new admin account, log out & into the new account.
Does your admin PW work to unlock the lock even?
