Help! Itunes freezes when trying to drag from library to playlist

Can someone please help me? I am trying to drag songs from my library to playlists, they highlight fine from the library, but when I unclick to drop into the playlist itunes freezes. I have to shut down. I have tried everything, restarted, updated, did all the obvious but nothing helps. Does anyone have an answer to this?

I can help a little on my own question. If anyone needs this info. I called up. They told me to drag 1 to 10 songs at a time instead of a few hundred. That's ridiculous.

Yeah, I have been recommending dragging 1000 at a time instead of 3000 or 5000!

We should at least be able to move 500, don't ya think? No, no we should be able to move as many as we want, from 1 to 1000, 3000 even 5000. It's just moving from library to playlist. I have about 9000 songs, how 'bout you?

A bit over 10K, but... I also am sure no security software is scanning my iTunes folders.

When you drop songs into the library iTunes has to update the ITL and XML files, maybe Norton or something is preventing that?

What are the iTunes library files?

Hi, no I do not have Norton or anything that would block the program. The computer is strictly for music, no other crazy programs, and I don't even download songs from the internet. When I highlight the songs from the library or any playlist, I don't even get the "shadow" that comes with the drag. Then I have to ctrl/alt/delete and shut down itunes, just to reopen.
