built in bluetooth car kit doesn't understand Siri

I like using my built in bluetooth car kit for phone calls, but it kills Siri. It just can't understand what I've said to Siri. Maybe the mic (in the overhead console) is too far away? In any event, is there a way to keep using the car kit for phone calls, but to force Siri to use the built in iPhone mic for Siri commands?
