Q: Hello everyone.

Hello everyone. As a new Mac user, I would really like to know the easiest way to move my music files from my old PC to my MacBook? Do I move only the files or the entire iTunes and how? I have a lot of music so it is not a solution with iPod/iPhone. I know I have to use the Migration Assistant, but I do not wish to transfer everything from my PC, but only the music files. (I've put photos, documents ect. on an external harddrive, but there's not enough room on it for my music.) Do I then use the Migration Assistant manually or what is the best way?

    The Apple store will do this for you.

    You can call Apple support and they will walk you through it.

    You can type "move itunes library from pc to mac" into the google search bar.

    I've tried google and I've read quite a bit, but I'm still unsure of how to move only some specific files. I have the impression that with the migration assistant I will move everything, which I am not interested in. But thanks for your reply.

    It doesn't move everything. Only specific info.

    See this -> http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4796

    If you wish to move only your iTunes, copy the entire /My Music/iTunes/ folder from Windows PC to the /Music/ on the Mac.

    Thank you, Chris - and I do the copying when having "launched" the assistant? That is, I will come to the copying automatically when I've started the assistant? (As you can hear, I like to know what'll happen before I actually do it - sorry about that)

    And secondly, if I copy Itunes and not the actual music files won't I have problems when connecting my Ipod to the "moved" Itunes as the files are no longer saved the same place? (Think I have experienced that before). Or do I automatically move the files together with Itunes?

    Best regards from Denmark

    Migration Assistant will step through and show you what is going to do before it does it

    "And secondly, if I copy Itunes and not the actual music files"

    Yu are not going to copy "only iTunes". You are not copying iTunes at all.

    You are copying the iTunes folder, which is the entire iTunes library (library files and media).
