Keeping getting this error....

1/26/12 5:19:54.000 PM kernel: disk1s3: I/O error.

1/26/12 5:20:07.000 PM kernel: disk1s3: I/O error.


Not sure why....just had hard drive replaced. A banking program is running slow, and their tech support claims my new hard drive may be bad..


Any ideas??

I/O error can be any input/output error. Yes the hard drive can be bad, the interface can be bad, or the data transfer software may not be able to handle that large a file transfer because of insufficient caching space. Creating scripts for copying files with Shirt-Pocket Superduper can copy large volumes of files to a disk that the Finder may baulk at. See my FAQ* on clearing disk space:

That's probably an external HD. The internal is usually disk0.


To be sure, click the Apple Icon at the left of your menubar, then About this Mac > More Info > System Report.


In the resulting list, click Serial-ATA in the sidebar and look for BSD Name. If it's disk1, that's it.


If not, check any other disks there, or the USB or Firewire sections depending on what's connected.
