Bookmarks bar keeps changing by itself

I use Time Machine so I have been able to restore to a trusted version.

It is annoying though, that it changes.

Try troubleshooting the Safari .plist file (preferences) Might be corrupted from the TM backup...

Quit Safari.

Go to ~/Library/Preferences

Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop

Relaunch Safari. If that helped, move the .plist file to the Trash. If not, move it back to the Preferences folder.

If that didn't help, go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari

Move the Cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash.

Try Safari.

The hard disk wasn't doing this... the preferences were corrupted from your TM backup. Creating a new .plist file (the Mac OS X creates a new .plist file for you after restarting Safari), and deleting the cache, that usually helps.

I just had this same problem - Safari kept re-ordering my Bookmarks bar after I changed it. The proposed solution of deleting the .plist file didn't work for me.

Word of caution to others: deleting this file will reset many of your prefs, so be aware you'll have to change them if you don't just replace the file you moved out.

Any other solutions that people have encountered?

Me too. I've found that after manually changing a URL in the bookmarks bar, the folder containing all my RSS feeds jumps to the end of the Bookmarks list as soon as I click on another link. Nothing else in the bookmark bar moves. Safari 5.1.5 in OSX 10.7.3

I found other references to problems syncing, and for me the solution had to do with iCloud bookmark sync getting whacked out.

I tried several recipes for resetting the iCloud data, and frankly don't recall which exactly worked for me. The gist is that you have to turn bookmark syncing OFF for all your devices and nuke the data on iCloud. It's in the Prefs screen on both OSX and iOS I believe.

Be very sure to save a copy on your Mac so you have a fallback if something goes wrong.

Once all your devices have syncing OFF you make sure to delete all the data EXCEPT what is on the Mac that you want to use as the seed for everything. Get this bookmark data completely correct, then back up the corrected version along with the original mentioned above.

You may have to give iCloud several minutes to clear the data even once you tell it to delete. I think I ended up waiting about 15 minutes.

Now you turn on the syncing for the Mac, and wait another bit for everything to get copied/synced to the cloud.

Once the data is correct, turn on syncing for any iDevice you're also syncing to the same account.

This corrected the situation for me, and I haven't had a repeat since.

I have the same problem, but found no fix yet. I was using Chrome browser, then I changed to Mavericks. After that I switched to Safari because that seems to work better with the Mavericks. But Safari doesn't keep my bookmarks.

Synch is switched of, and I tried the thing Carolyn Samit suggested. But nothing works...

Can anyone help me please?
