Passing on old 3G to someone else after reset won't work on iTunes

I upgraded from my 3G so I got it unlocked , reset it back to factory settings and sent it to my son In Belgium. I am in Australia. He can't get it to work on his iTunes anyone know what he can do. Thanks. The 3G is just over 2 years old

I went to a shop and they unlocked it for me. It was originally Vodafone here in Oz,

I gave my son the unlocked phone but because I had not fester it back to factory settings via my iTunes when he put his Belgian sim card in it , it worked but when he tried to register it with his iTunes it would not do it, obviously because it was still registered to my iTunes. When he came to visit me at Xmas he brought the iphone with him. I did a restore back to factory settings and gave him the Phone to take back with him. Now he is home he switched phone back on and it says plug into iTunes which he did but it just keeps saying insert sim card even though he has put in his own sim card. Is it possible that restoring the phone back to factory settings has took the unlock off and he needs my original sim card.

Sorry that I didnt give enough infor before. Thanks

That means the phone was hacked. Not legitimately unlocked. Only the carrier it is locked to can authorize unlocking it. Unfortunately, the unauthorized modification makes it unsupportable here or by Apple.

Restoreing it re-locked it to the original carrier. The hack performed to 'unlock' the phone may have done irreversable damage.

Vodaphone AU does offer official unlocking. You can try contacting them to inquire as to the requirements and fees involved. It may allow it to work for him. If it does not, though, we can't help you here. Sorry.

I thought that once my yep year contract was up and I got an upgrade you just took phone to shop to get it unlocked how is it hacking it's a legitimate shop on the high street.??

Anyway you are saying that it's now back to being in original state so tied to Vodafone even though I have a new IPhone using my original sim card.? What do I need to know to call them ? My son can't get the phone to switch on past connect to iTunes so how will I get all the serial number etc. Will hennaed to post it to me so I can put In my sim card.

What's the best way to have it unlOcked via Vodafone.

Here was me thinking I was doing something nice and recycling and old phone and it's just been a hastle

:-( thanks for your input
