Belkin USB PCI not functioning.

I don't know when, if after any updates this has stopped working. I can't seem to find much information about updates to the firmware because of tiger or anything. There was this, I installed the last one to no avail; http://en-us-support.belkin.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/541/~/f5d5055-gigabit-us b-2.0-network-adapter---driver

Mac Pro

10.6.8

Not sure what other info is relevant.

MAC PRO quad 3.0, Mac OS X (10.4.9)

On that page you linked to the only possible driver of what was shown was this one:

And that comment doesn't look encouraging.

I downloaded that file (installer only would install a kext) and took a look at the kext. In only supports ppc and 32-bit intel archetectures. Not 64-bit intel. So are you running 32 or 64 bit mode? And ignoring that that comment on that download does not say it is 10.6 compatible.

I think you may be out of luck using that card with Snow Leopard -- at least until Belkin gets their act together if ever.

You might want to consider one of the offerings from OWC. At least with them you stand a good chance of actually getting something that works on current versions of OSX.

That search I did on their site was for "usb pci cards" in their search box and the page it found (at least on my machine) did have USB cards. There indeed is also a bunch of firewire cards in that list too. You know searches, they always get more than you are looking for. 😉

If for some reason that link I gave is not coming up with the page I am seeing stick "usb pci cards" in their search box near the top of one of their pages.

Yup, for that card it looks like IOGear is just as bad as Belkin.

You have the right idea, i.e., try to narrow down a card, read it's restrictions, and also read the manufacturer's page for the card just in case they have updated or relaxed the restrictions (e.g., updated drivers). It's always a possibility that a third party seller (in this case OWC) cannot keep up with every change to everything they sell and get their web pages updated in a timely fashion.

Note, I think part of the problem you may be seeing is that everyone seems to be concentrating on USB3 leaving USB2 in the dust. I believe USB3 is backward compatible with USB2. So you may want to consider a USB3 card.

Yeah, newer cards seem like the only option. Funny; this is the reply I got from Belkin, I bought this card with my mac and used it for 4 years before 10.6 killed it. They tell me I can't even used it on a Mac?

"With regards to your concern about using this on the Mac OS X 10.6.8, the system requirements to use the usb 2.0 5-port pci express card - F5U252 should be Windows-based computer with available PCI Express Card slot and the operating system is Windows 2000, Windows XP, or Windows 2003 server."

Um, thanks Belkin?
