How do you remove cell formatting without removing all the information? I am entering zip codes onto a numbers spread sheet and it seems as though the column is formatted to add them together. I did not knowingly set the formating to add the numbers in the column. I would like to remove the formatting without loosing the data. Help says to select the column and delete. I have no idea if that reformats the column because all it does is lose my data. I would perfer to find another option that does not include me retyping 500 zip codes.

First you need to create your formula. I did s simple ascending numbers list.

I expanded that to only a few numbers just for this example.

If you don't know how to expand a formula. First create your formula (as seen in the image above). Then once you have the formula entered and the cell is selected, use the yellow handle on the same cell and pull down until you have what you want or need.

Note the image where you can see the cells formula if you click on it.

Once you have the list of numbers, and you want make sure you can move the cells around with out disrupting your formula, you need to select and copy the cells.

Now for the part that "Clears the cell's format". You need to go back to edit and select Paste Formula results.

As you can now see, you can click on a cell and it no longer has a formula attached to it.

I hope this helps. It was so easy but it took me forever to figure out!!!

Chrysalis,

Click on the Column Label to Select the entire column that you have entered ZIP codes into.

In the Cells Inspector, Choose "Text" in the "Cell Format" menu.

Type the combination: "Shift-Command-4".

Drag the cursor across the Numbers window to capture the contents of the column.

This will put a picture of your screen on your Desktop. Then Reply to the forum and post the image by clicking on the Camera icon in the toolbar of the reply composer window. You will be guided to select the image for the post.

We'll see if we can figure out what is going on.
