can I run windows xp on Lion and boot camp 4.0? I don't want to buy windows 7.

I have a 2011 27" Imac with Lion. I want to reinstall my old MSmoney and use boot camp this time instead of Parallels. Since my MSmoney Deluxe is old and was running on Parallels with XP, I don't wish to upgrade windows to W7 if not necessary.

So can I run XP on my newer Imac with Lion or will it be necessary to upgrade windows 7?

Will the old MSmoney Delux then run on Lion & bootcamp?

Also, does the newer boot camp allow one to run both operating systems like Parallels does?

Thanks

Jim

Hi. I have been scanning posts everywhere to come up with a solution to this problem becuase:

1. I do not want to re-install windows from scratch, and

2. I do not want to buy Windows7 when XP works well for me.

So...after trying many options with Bootcamp, xp install work arounds, winclone 2.3.3, paragon NTFS for OSX I can confirm that xp will not run on bootcamp in Lion. I can bootup from a restart into XP but cannot run through bootcamp. This is the solution that worked for me:

My previous setup was: OSX Leopard running Windows XP on Bootcamp through VMWare VMFusion

I needed a larger harddrive and Leopard was getting very unstable for me so hence the upgrade.

This is what I did after usual backups etc:

1. Replace the hd in my Macbook pro with a new unformatted hd

2. Insert my old hd into an external usb enclosure. We are going to use this hd later to 1 restore my Macbook settings and data and 2 import the bootcamp partition onto the new hd.

3. Install Snow Leopard and then Lion with all the updates etc to get a fully funcional Macbook Pro using Lion

4. As part of the above installation process copy all my existing data and settings from my previous setup. I copied straight from the old hd rather than Timemachine as this never seems to work for me (I partitioned my Timemachine drive and Mac is not too fond of this).

5. Connect my old hd to the Mac and open VMWare VMFusion. VMFusion will now see my bootcamp partition on the external drive and can boot this up BUT it is very slow as it is using a usb connection. Do not boot up the bootcamp partition and go to the next set.

6. In VMFusion import the bootcamp partition on the external drive to an image on the new Lion hd. Once this import is complete there is a fully funcional copy of windows xp and all my data sitting in an image file on my Lion hd. There is now no need for the external hd. See this link:

There is no need for bootcamp, winclone or any other fancy backdoor workarounds

This is a very simple and really elegant solution. I now have Lion, a new 750GB hd and windows xp with all my software and data all on one machine. So far this works for me.
