Software Update Popup keeps stealing foreground

I'm running a software update on Lion in the backgorund, and every 20 seconds or so, the "Software Update" progress window pops to the foreground and completely steals mouse focus. Does Apple expect that I not use my computer while the updates run? What's the point of having a comptuter that can multitask but prevents you from being able to multitask? Or am I experiencing something that noone else is?
