Epson Stylus Photo 750 on 10.5.8

Has anyone had success using a Epson Stylus Photo 750 (printer) on Mac OS 10.5.8 ? If so, can you please explain how ?

My Photo 750 used to work fine on this computer (PowerBook G4 17" 1.67Ghz) about 5 years ago. Some things were changing in my business and due to remodel I packed up a few things (this Photo 750 printer being one of them) in boxes and let them be until now.

Since then, I of course though have been regularly using this laptop computer and of course its OS has been updated as time went on to the lastest supported OS for it = 10.5.8.

Ok, so when I took the Photo 750 out of the box its been safely packed in all these years, plugged it in, the computer recognized it as such, name and all, BUT when setting it up when it gets to the "searching for a driver" phase, it gives me a message that "no suitable driver can be found". But that was automatic, so I personally used the drop down menu of drivers to see the driver list. There was 2 that seemed relevant, "Epson NEW Stylus Photo Driver 1.3" and "Epson Stylus Photo Driver 1.3".

Well long story, after trying them both, they each seem like their set up fine, BUT when trying to print, absolutely nothing happens. I mean nothing at all. In the "Que" it just says "Stopped" a second after you start. This was for both drivers.

I have the original driver for it that shipped with it on CD. Tried that, but it is for OS 9 !! LOL, so it doesn't instal. Searched everywhere online for a new driver for 10.5.8 and no luck, they all hit a "error page" when actually trying to download.

So I then called Epson directly. They said they have no driver for them as Apple has had all the "in OS" drivers for everything now. But they did spend about 30 minutes with me trying to get it to work. No luck ! They did walk me through processes to make sure my printer is working by itself. And it is. So its not that.

So ultimately, they came to the conclusion that Apples drivers "Epson NEW Stylus Photo Driver 1.3" and "Epson Stylus Photo Driver 1.3" don't work for the Epson Styluy Photo 750 like it should. And recommended I contact Apple about this.

I am now here asking if anyone else could help or has any info pertaining to this for helping me, or for confirming it just don't work.

Thanks !

I use the Stylus 740 (close to your model) and have always used the Gutenprint driver available here:

http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/

which has worked well from Tiger to my present Leopard OS.
