I recently tried to install Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 onto my mac but after it downloads all that opens up is a message box, not the program. I have the download links in an email, through the microsoft website. Anyone know how to make it actually install this onto a MacBook Pro?

In addition to the above, if you have plans or even are considering, going to Lion, 10.7, go for Office 2011...2008 is supposed to work with Lion but some users on here have reported problems. May as well go with what always works with both Snow Leopard and Lion, Office 2011.
MS Office 2010 is for Windows. You would need to create a seperate partition on your hard drive and install Windows on it just to be able to run that version. You are better off purchasing mac compatible versions of MS Office, which are 2008 and 2011.

I have heard that '08 will work on a mac that is upgraded to Lion, but not on a mac that is sold with Lion preinstalled. Either way, I agree with the point you made, just to get Office '11.

Unless your office uses Exchange 2003, in which case it's a terrible point, it won't work at all, you'll need Office 2008 for that.
Of course there is the question of can you even get 2008 from a reliable source 😁
