I'm going to India in a month and wanted to know if I need to unlock it to use it there. It's the iPhone 4S from Verizon Wireless. And no it's not factory unlocked. Thanks for all your help. 🙂

The only way you will be able to unlock it is through Verizon if you can meet their terms for doing so and even if you do an use a GSM provider in India if the phone detects a CDMA system it will switch to that on a roaming basis. You really need to call Verizon or go to one of their stores and discuss your options with them.
So does that mean it has to be unlocked???? Because my dad wanted to know that.
He would be better off selling it or gifting it to someone in the US.
