How can I connect a 27" iMac (Mid 2011) to a 24" iMac (Mid 2007) to use the 24" (with mini dvi) as extended screen?

Sorry, but you can't. iMacs only support video out, not in.
@Silly rabbit: this is not true! iMacs support video out AND IN.
It is called "Target Display Mode":

It should work, because the iMac 2011 can Output a Display-Port signal (and even "import" a Thunderbolt Video signal!)
