No sound with my new Apple TV 2

I have the Apple TV connected with an HDMI cable directly to the back of my Sharp Aquos. No sound and recieving a message about an incompatible audio signal. I then tried connecting optictal cable to the TV. Still no volume. I then swithced out HDMI cables, still no audio.

I then tried connecting optical cable directly to my Denon av-791, whille the HDMI was still connected to the TV directly.

Any other ideas? I have powered off all devices and restarted in the recommended order, still nothing. The picture is great, just no sound.

I have tried music and Netflix. I have moved cables around and altered tv settings.

I had this problem and the reason was the Dolby and Audio Output. Try switching these "off" in the "Audio & Video" settings.

Any resolution on this issue? There seems to be an issue with a software update for Apple TV leading to audio simply dropping out altogether for people who've previously had it working ok. Looking for answers.

Your not alone. I haven upgraded yet, but you should submit a bug report to Apple so the problem get solved. they may already have one for this issue, but the more they get the harder they work to resolve it

Thanks - changing the Dolby setting worked for me, but only after I rebooted the Apple Tv.

Peter... did you ever get closure on this? Getting same exact issue... funny thing... sound worked initially... for ~ 15 minutes... then it bombed out... and can't get it back.

Anyone else find a fix... thanks...

Hi

I have a similar problem. I set up my Apple TV a week or so ago and everything was fine. I have now lost all audio and assumed there was a problem with the HDMI cable, so I purchased a new cable and found no difference at all. I have tried changing the Dolby settings but this hasn't worked. Any further suggestions?
