Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT
Hi,
My Mac will not sleep when it is charging. When I close my display, it will not sleep.
When I unplug the power cable, it sleeps...
I've tried to reset the SMC, and I think i did, the charger went from green to red etc different colours..
Does anybody know what this might be?

You can change those settings in the systempreferences, under powersaving (don't know the exact name by heart). You can tell it to shutdown, put the computer to sleep or do nothing when you close the lid. These settings can also be changed seperately for plugged-in and not plugged-in, or at least you can in Windows.
I'm not currently at home, so I have no way of checking the correct names and settings.

I believe that it is only in Windows. In mac os it should be standard and unchangeable, i think. if you do know how to do it with macs, could u maybe lead me through it please? I have checked everything and have not found it.
do you have any UBS or bluetooth devices connnected? if so disconnect or turn them off. It sounds like your MBP is operating in clamshell mode

I'm very sorry, but I don't seem to be able to find anything, but on the other hand I do not own a Macbook, so maybe you will find this setting after searching a little in the System Preferences. You could always try to type in words like "lid" or "sleep" etc. in the searchfield of System Preferences.

Also you might want to quit all applications, as some will keep it awake, if toy are connected to a network got system prefs<power saver and uncheck wake for network access

This is how to fix it, and i guarantee u its 90% the cause.!
first of all, if you are a lion user (most likely all of you with this problem) go to system preferences, and then to sharing. turn all sharing OFF. especially printers....
open a terminal, and type in :
pmset -g assertions
This will show u if somehting is preventing ur mac from sleeping. on the left colomn, it should say "PreventSystemSleep" and on the right colomn a number. mine was one, which is probably the same for you guys.
Go to system preferences > Print & Scan > Open Print Queue. Make sure all the printing queues are empty and nothing is in there. You do not need to pause any or anything like that just make sure nothing is in the queue.
Close your macbook lid and look at ur light 😉 it should be sleeping. HOPE THIS WORKS FOR U

I had this problem on my iMac running Lion. Turned out to be a print job in a print queue of a disconnected printer. Deleted job. Problem solved.
Before fussing with terminal and/or system preferences, simply restart the computer. This worked for me when not only would the computer not go to sleep when the display was closed, but also would not respond to the sleep command on the Apple menu. This says nothing about what the problem might have been in the first place, but since it worked I don't much care.
