Camcorder Advice....Sony VX 2000 used vs Panasonic AG DVC 30 new

I actually just bought a Sony VX2000 used on ebay. Wasn't looking at any other camcorder and i'm not too familiar with the Panasonic. Your decision should really be based on what kind of shooting you are planning on doing. I'm getting into the wedding videography business and Sonys are renowned for their lowlight capabilities(VX2000 is rated at 3 LUX). So if your planning on doing some lowlight shooting you can't go wrong with the Sony. Another thing is do you really want to deal with a used camera? If you were to buy a used Sony VX2000 its guranteed to be at least 3 years old and not its well known that some people to tend to lie about products that are listed used on ebay. Somebody might say that they only put 50 hours on the head but you will never know with the 2000 unless you take it to a service shops. Hopefully this helps.

I have had both a Panasonic and Sony camera. The Panasonic is by far the better camera. I've had it for 5 years now, regularly use it out in my boat and it has never failed me. My Sony is a piece of rubbish - I can't stress that enough. I work in post prod. the the BBC and swear by Panasonic too. The workmanship is far superior.

I couldn't disagree more. I have been using a VX2000 for four years now and have produced several documentaries with it. The only complaints would be lack of XLR, lack of true progressive scan, and the lightweight rearend of the camera, which I compensate for with the largest battery I could get!

Maybe joclegg's particular VX2000 was rubbish, but I have never had any problems with mine!
