Not sure why you would be getting a SIM failure message with an iPhone 4S activated with Verizon - unless Verizon has unlocked the GSM portion of your iPhone, which still shouldn't matter unless you are traveling outside of the U.S. using a mico-SIM card provided by a GSM network provider in another country.
I suggest contacting Verizon technical support in the AM.
Yeah I was confused myself. I'm currently at school in Athens, GA and this phone has never been outside the United States. Verizon told me to contact Apple but my 90 days of AppleCare has already ended, so they said they couldn't help me over the phone.
Complimentary telephone support for any and everything has expired, but if you have a valid problem that cannot be resolved by any other means, AppleCare will not charge you since the iPhone includes a one year warranty. They will ask for a credit card in advance, but after they confirm you have a valid problem that may require an exchange under warranty, you will not be charged.
Did Verizon have you try anything, or they just told you to call AppleCare?
Verizon just told me to contact AppleCare. AppleCare told me that I need to buy a full AC protection plan before they can do anything for me.
That or pay a one time $30 fix fee.
I guess it has changed.
You can make an appointment at an Apple store - doubtful there is one in Athens, but there is in Atlanta. No charge for support at an Apple store except for the time to drive to Atlanta and gas.
