I am new to the MAC. I recently purchased a refurbished iBook G4 that came loaded with Leopard 10.5.8 and I would like to download and install Garage Band. Unfortunately the only version of Garage band I can fing reuires Snow Leopard 10.6.x or higher. Do I have to Purchase the upgrade or can I download it somewhere?

You would need to purchase the Snow Leopard ( 10.6) software and install it, but I don't believe that you computer is compatible with 10.6.
Hi. Unfortunatley, Snow Leopard is not an option for an iBook. it requires an Intel processor.

It doesn't.
As you and stedman1 have said, no Snow Leopard for any iBook, all of which have PowerPC (not Intel) processors.
Hi, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
You will need a MacBook, MacBook Air, or MacBook Pro in order to have a portable Mac that will run Snow Leopard.
You may want to look for an older version of GarageBand instead.
iLife '08 includes GarageBand, and should work with the iBook G4.

Ilife 08 will work on your g4. Saw some in ebay starting at $14.00 . Comes with garage band.
