What is usbmuxd?

My Console log is littered with entries about usbmuxd. It sounds like iTunes was possibly linked against one version and it is finding another? Does anyone know how to resolve this? The log entires are like this:

Hi,

I referred to above links and their discussion. It is not that I want to worry about it. What happened in my case was this "USBMUXD" would open so many ports (between 4xxxx to 5xxxx) that my firewall stopped it completely because it was treated as some kind of malware doing a Port Scan. I understand that this is for Mac to connect to our iOS devices but why so many ports? It continued to open ports continuously to the point that my firewall would just stopped it. Anyone has similar problem and if so how do we handle such matter. Thanks in advance.
