My ipod was exposed to a magnet. Is there anything I can do to revive it?

Could they help me at the Apple store?

A nametag magnet fell onto my ipod classic while it was playing. It froze. I connected to computer hoping that itunes would reset it but itunes did not recognize it and my computer hung up while trying to stop it as a device. I let the battery die and I have recharged it. I toggled the hold switch and I get the apple on the screen. After a minute, I get a red warning symbol with the message www.apple.com/support/ipod. I tried to get to support that way but I couldn't get past where I must enter a serial number. This ipod classic is about 5 years old and I can't find a serial number anywhere on the case.

Can anyone help me please with how I may restore my ipod? Thank you.
