trackpad won't connect with bluetooth

Great, finally this solved my problem with Magic Trackpad connection to a Macbook Pro 2015 on 10.10.3

Trackpad suddenly stopped working and it took me a long time to figure out why. Bluetooth explorer did the trick.

This worked for me. The key was understanding that holding in the power button on the trackpad while it is being paired is necessary. Before, I was clicking Pair, and watching it fail. But the power button must be held in. This is probably to prove that you have physical possession of the device, so you don't accidentally pair with someone else's trackpad in a busy environment.

Pairing a keyboard usually involves typing a code, but since you can't do this on a trackpad, the button serves this purpose.

I went into my bluetooth settings and deleted all the items. Then I turned the bluetooth off waited a few seconds and re-started it. Then It started finding things. I did, however, have to hold my trackpad button down for the whole time, but it did find it.

I have the new Magic Trackpad 2, was having issues with this. Presumably from connecting it to work and home laptops back and forth.

I had to remove the device from bluetooth, plug it in via USB and it worked again.

Someone in this thread, unfortunately I forget who, tipped me off when I complained of my magic mouse not working- try using a different input device. I managed it by buying, and keeping handy, an Apple corded Pro mouse, but I can also do it with a Magic Trackpad. Sometimes the mouse will simply stop functioning-with fresh batteries, it can't select anything, can't scroll up or down, click as hard and often as I may. If I plug in the corded mouse, IT works, and thereafter the BT mouse works as well. same with switching to the trackpad. IT works, then everything else does. Go figure.

Here is a tip: make sure there is not another computer nearby that was previously paired with your Apple trackpad or mouse. If there is one, disable bluetooth on that other computer until you complete the pairing with the new computer. Then, you can turn bluetooth back on.

thanks! This sorted the problem for me. I'd forgotten I'd had the track pad set up on my Mac Mini which is not always on so it was an intermittent fault. All is now working as it should.

Turn the bluetooth on your computer off and back on. Also turn the trackpad off and on, it's not much of a solution, but the small things often fix huge problems!

Hmm... Do other bluetooth devices connect to the iMac?

Thanks. Worked like a charm with the proviso that you need to have a corded mouse connected to click the bluetooth back on again.
