Q: Aperture 3.x over a network

Did not see any recent posts about this subject hence the new thread.

I'm running Aperture 3.x on a MBP. My very large libraries (>1TB each) are on a fast RAID attached to a Lion Server. My network is small and noone else has access to the drives with the libraries. For various reasons I'd like to keep the libraries on the RAID rather than local. The performance over all Gigabit speed cables/switches is adaquate for my needs. Just wondering about potential problems with this setup. Does anyone have any experience running Aperture over a network?

Thank you...

There are no guarantees that this will work reliably, although it is very tempting; Apple advises against it:

    1. Aperture: Use locally mounted Mac OS X Extended volumes for your Aperture library: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3252

Hi - I'm familier with the KB article. However as I'm getting very good performance and no other users are accessing the volume (and it is formatted as Mac OS Extended) I'm wondering what problems I might run into.

TThe problem is the network access. Your Library may be left in an inconsitant state, if the network fails during a critical transaction. Aperture is not designed as a network database. If you want to riks it, make sure you back up your library regularly, so that you can restore it always from a current, working backup.

Not running as a networked database and am making very regular (and multiple) backups. So it sounds like the only real issue is possible network failure. A risk I'm willing to take as the network is small and closed.
