Why is Siri Useless to me :(

I am located in Bogota, Colombia and bought the iPhone the day it was released here. This is my first iPhone and it's an incredible gadget, now I can't live without it!

One of the things that really made me buy an iPhone this year was Siri. Unfortunelty, for me and probably anyone else not living in the US, Siri falls short of expectation, by a 1000000 miles.

The reasons: It doesn't know anything in Colombia, it doesn't speak Spanish, it doesn't understand accents, it gets confused easily. Now, English is my first language, but I speak spanish everyday, be it company names, friend's names, road names, and a bunch of other names. And it just doesn't understand what I'm saying about 70% of the time. I actually have to becareful not to say somethjing I know it won't understand. For example my carrier is called Movistar, and whenever I ask Siri to call Movistar it starts to dial my SISTER, I'm like UGHHH you idiot machine.

About the only thing it can do right is set up appointments (without using specific names in spanish), and call some people (whose names are internationally recognizable). It used to be able to tell me the time, but for some weird reason now whenever I ask "What time it is", it responds with "Sorry Name, I can't provide directions in Calle 12," and I'm like *** are you talking about 😟

Siri is useless and I hope it can one day work the way I need it to work. The end.

"Siri is available in Beta only on iPhone 4S and requires Internet access. Siri may not be available in all languages or in all areas, and features may vary by area. Cellular data charges may apply."

Language Support and Availability

Siri works exclusively on iPhone 4S. Siri understands and can speak the following languages:

English (United States, United Kingdom, Australia)

French (France)

German (Germany)

In 2012, Siri will support additional languages, including Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Italian, and Spanish.

We are barely into 2012.

TY @roaminggnome

@Allan, I am paying customer of this incredible device, and wether or not Siri is in beta I'd like to voice my own experience and opinions about it thus far. If you don't like my "whining" then don't read nor reply man it's that simple.

Anyways languages, yea that's what they mention and that's nice and all but will it understand local company names, street names, city names, store names.

Even better, will it understand bilingual converstations, meaning I usually do reminders and notes in English but if I have to say a word or two in spanish will it be able to understand... will it be able to understand cultural words at all, meaning there might be a word thats popular in Colombia or Spain but not so popular in other countries and vice versa.

Don't feel bad.and don't get excited about it coming in Spanish. It's no better in the US in Engish. I tried over and over in the car, I'd say call so and so and it says, "I'm sorry, I can't do that right now." Every time. Never did that before Siri. I always have to manually call. I don't even try to use it anymore ever for anything. Another stupid Apple gimmick that doesn't work most of the time.

OMG! I forgot you could do that. Thanks! Yes, it did recognize phone commands pretty well before, and I will turn her off. Say goodbye Siri. The biggest problem is that she doesn't reset after failing but just sits there so you have to get it out of your pocket to reset the screen and make the call. The voice command module resets and you can try again if it doesn't understand.

Edario said Spanish. Costamatrix, who you replied to said s/he lived in Brazil. And they speak Portuguese, not Spanish.

I have no idea why you are saying "what language you speak" to me, as I speak and write English. I'm trying to let Costamatrix know that not ALL Apple users are geographically stupid, and that they don't ALL reply willy-nilly to people as if their specific problems didn't matter. Some help that would be in a help forum.
