OS X Lion's Mission Control is missing key features of Expose

Mission Control is part of OS X Lion which it s transitional OS X version to something else coming and the hardware it's going to be running on.

I suspect MC is the way it is because of future touchscreen computers where your big hand is going to be in the way so you don't need to see the screen anyway while using it.

I'm waiting it all out on Snow Leopard, safe, sound and sane. 🙂

I agree, SEAmachead. And I'm getting tired of everybody telling me, "3-finger scrolling will show all windows in an app!" as if that solves it. I want to see everything I have open in every app like I could in Snow Leopard. In the kind of work I do, I need to go back and forth from one app to another and I have lots of things open for a reason. I want to see the content of each window when I look at all windows and before "Mission Control" I could. At least give us the option!

New OS permutations should come with warnings so you know what you're about to lose, not just what you're going to get (which as far as I'm concerned, is nothing. The only thing Lion has allowed me to do is use iBooks Author, which may be something I want to do a lot in the future, but it not so important that it was worth losing something that helped me in my day-to-day work.

Thanks so much for the trouble, but I do understand how to see all windows of just one app, like Safari as in your video. What I want is to go back to how I could see all windows of ALL apps that I have open -- such as Word, PowerPoint, PDF files, photos, as well as browser windows. I really think that function is just all gone and while we can do extra steps to get the same effect, the point is, that's a step in the wrong direction for Apple. The glory of the Mac is that things were simple and in this case, you could get that effect in one lovely step. Now you can't. Thanks anyway, though!

p.s. I'd pay for an app that brought this feature back! Hint, hint, developers!

OK...wait a sec.

In Expose with 3 app opened; Safari, Preview and Micosoft Messenger... Click on the app in the Dock to bring it forward in Expose. This is why the Dock appears if you have it hidden.

Okay, now, that is helpful. I hadn't mastered that particular nuance of Mission Control. It's still not quite what I want in that it involves multiple steps and I'm not all that great at the 3-finger thing. I'd much rather just hit one button and see everything. But it does help. Thanks for all your trouble. The video is a nice touch since I don't always get it by just reading the commands.

I think some perhaps do not realize that many people miss the actual spaces in combination with exposé. It was quite powerful for those of us that need to constantly access and shift around multiple apps. While I understand there are many users that have adopted the pad mentality, I for one still use a Wacom tablet for everything—including browsing the web—as do many other professionals. Mission Control is a catastrophe for this, and generally for everything within my workflow. Photoshop follows every desktop I move to, which is super annoying, and is a prime example of how much of a joke mission control really is (blame adobe whatever...still horrible). But more importantly, I can drag an app to a desktop, but NOT from a desktop into my current desktop. This is fatal to productivity when working in programming, 3D, compositing, design, etc..

I am pleased to hear there could be some evolution taking place with Exposé; regardless of my personal views. Anything is better than what we have now. A touch pad dominant environment may be the wave of OSX future to many, but to me it's only one step closer to soley using Linux based operating systems.

Sorry for the long post... Hopefully a few of you that have never worked in this way can see how it goes beyond just Exposé from certain perspectives... RIP spaces 😟. Exposé is only partially as good without them imho. Open spaces > then exposé while in spaces mode > move one app to one space, another to another, put anything exactly where you want it, all without closing out—meanwhile being able to see literally every document/app perfectly clear.

I agree and upgraded from Lion to Snow Leopard.

That said I also have Lion on an old Mac Mini connected to my TV so I get to experience both systems. Snow Leopard is a massive step forward from Lion. Here is my favorite video on the topic (can't do this with Mission Control):

Oh god... the nightmare gets worse! I didn't know the "long click" on an icon in the dock is now broken too! Really, who designed this piece of junk... did Mr. Gates have a hand in it just to annoy us Mac users?!?

I upgraded to get bettery encryption (something transparent), but it looks like I'm heading to restore my Snow Leopard backup, as this is just insanity to remove several of the features that I used intuitively each day. I'm sure I'm not the only one that's angry!

I was angry until I went back to Snow Leopard. It's hard to get angry at the company that provided a marked improvement on Lion.

After watching that video I simply cannot begin to comphrehend why they introduced MC. Ok Apple I don't get annoyed with you that often but this is change for change sake with absolutely no benefits. I have been using MC for months and I hate it. At least give us the choice when you introduce drastic changes like this that frankly seriously mess up the way people work!

I agree, Spaces was amazing. But in Mission Control you can do something similar with 'Desktop 1' and 'Desktop 2', allocating windows from multiple applications to a single space.

I use this to group windows by project that I'm working on, so different client, different Desktop.

Totally agree. Spaces where already good. It's just simple to use. The grid is better than the linear style. Why change what's already great. There are so many things Apple changed in Lion and do not make sense right away, it seems like many bad decisions were made altogether really ****** off a lot of fans and users.
