i was very disapointed that i can't just look at the videos from finder, but i was able to download the videos in imovie. unforchunately it ended up in 960 × 540, and i want it in full hd. any ideas?

If you still have these clips on your camera, import it to iMovie again, and this time choose Full rather than Large in the import options. Save it to a different event. Once all is well, you can delete the first event.
An even better plan is to go to the Import Screen and choose "Create Archive". This will make an exact copy of what is on your camera, so you can then import to iMovie or to Final Cut Pro from the archive. Then you can erase your camera.
