Regret updating to AirPort Utility 6.0

Did I really just lose the ability to monitor clients in an update? I don't know how this can be viewed as a good thing? Surely anyone who is computer-literate enough to use an Airport Utility is going to want to have this kind of information at their disposal?

I just lost the ability to do the most common troubleshooting task on my network - find out how many, and which, clients are online, and then go see what they're doing.

Please fix this Apple.

You might want to take a look at AirPort Utility 5.6 for Lion. Do not trash 6.0, (yet) as you can run them separately from each other.

Bob, the address Apple is directing us to is this http://www.apple.com/support/airport Airport Utility 5.6 is available on the right side. If we need any of the features that were in 5.6 we need to have this downloaded in addition to 6.0.

Understand. You can have both 6.0 and 5.6 installed on Lion. Most users have already or will upate to 6.0 since that is part of the "automatic" update.

Once you download 5.6, you can run the one that you want.

no... I have both an airport extreme, and an old airport express... and it told me that the 1st gen airport express needed airport utility 5.6 and that was the link it gave me.

that is correct from my understanding.

You can run all of your devices on 5.6. Give it a try.

yup...i just tried it. I am going to keep both airport utility 5.6 and 6.0 in my utility folder.

Yes, it's good to know we can re-download 5.6 and run them side by side.

Feedback for Apple: In updates such as this, please consider those of us who are effectively our own systems administrators. I don't really want the inconvenience of losing features and then having to spend an hour or two looking for answers, redownloading and reinstalling. That said, I do like the new, more intuitive interface. I'd love an update that allows me to go to a client list with one click. 🙂

Great list, many thanks. If I may add one more to your list.. the ability to set the wireless output power (ie to 50% or 25%) has also GONE. Fortunately, I have been able to follow the excellent advice here on the forum and download 5.6 which has restored the original options.

What is interesting is that after initially installing the upgrade to 6.0 (and the AEBS firmware upgrade to 7.6.1 with the inevitable restart of the AEBS), discovering the lack of power output control, then running 5.6 again.. I saw that my power output setting remained at 50% (my original setting). So, had the 5.6 option not been available I would have been stuck at 50% permanently, at least until doing a reset to factory defaults (one would hope this would restore full power!).

With 5.6 all appears to be well again but what a complete FUBAR by Apple, this is just unbelieveable ! How can they release this xxxx?

Well 6.0 has been yanked from the support site and the App Store.

I have my TimeCapsule set to 10 % and my Airport Extreme that extends the TimeCapsule is set to 100 %, because I have the TimeCapsule set to 5 Ghrz (N only) so I would have been in the same boat.
