Ipad won't sync. Computer sees it as a camera
My computer recognises my ipad as a camera. It is not listed in itunes. I have tried using other ports. I have updated to the most recent version of itunes. What else could be wrong?

Xp sees it as a camera often. Just close the dialog box. Start itunes manually, plug the pad in, and see if it shows up on the left side as a device.
If not, here are some things to try.
1 make sure youmhave the most current version of i tumes.
2. Try a different usb port. Sometimes windows machines have real prots, and hub ports, and the pad needs a real port.
3. Since windows sees it as a camera, that means tour cable is ok.
This is a common problem whenever there are photos in the camera roll. The computer wants to transfer those photos.
I just dismiss the camera dialog and start iTunes as previously suggested.
But you may be able to permanently stop the camera application from starting. On a Mac this function is controlled by an application called Image Capture. There is a preference setting that describes what should happen when a camera is connected to the Mac. The choices usually are start iPhoto, start Image Capture start some other program like the software that came with a camera and the last choice is do nothing. Choosing Nothing will prevent the Mac from confusing the iPad as a camera. But when you do connect a camera you wil have to manually start the application to captu the photos.
I'm pretty sure there is something similar on a pc.
Thanks for taking the time to reply. In the meantime I discovered that the apple driver device was missing and i went through a number of steps to install it. Appreciate your response though
